Perhaps no hardcore band of the late 90s embodies the spirit of youth and the cynicism of Gen X better than Charles Bronson. Humorous and sarcastic, yet heartfelt and sincere, the band showcased the absurdity of being young and told to feel excited about an inevitable future of debt slavery, career entrapment, divorce, and all the usual misery that comes with being an adult.
After just three years as a band in rural Dekalb, Illinois, and written at a lightning pace while playing shows virtually every weekend, "Youth Attack!" showcases Charles Bronson with a fully developed and innovative style, delivering 20 relentless songs at a breakneck pace in just over 12 minutes. With lyrics that address everything from corporate chains swallowing up small towns to the allure of escapism, the band sought to push the form of hardcore forward in a way that was more personal and relatable while remaining steeped in the classic influences of the genre—an ethos that carries over to Youth Attack Records today.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, and for the first time in decades, "Youth Attack!" is now available for a limited time, tastefully remastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios, sounding crazier and more poignant than ever. “As adult oblivion beckons, now’s the time…”
This deluxe edition features:
· Rigid board tray-style custom box, with magnetized flap, anti-scratch lamination, and black ribbon lift
· Exclusive triple LP set on limited black vinyl, including: 1.) The "Youth Attack!" album with original art and fold-out poster, remastered from the original DAT tape by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios with audio that far surpasses the sound of both the original pressing and the Complete Discocrappy 2CD. 2.) The "Dekalb Wolfpack" collection, featuring all 8 compilation tracks recorded in 1997, the complete and previously only partly released soundboard recording of the band's set in Belgium, and 35 unreleased rehearsal tracks featuring early versions of several songs, along with covers of everyone from Septic Death to Integrity, audio of the band screwing around, and unused riffs that never made it onto the album. 3.) A special 25th Anniversary Mix of the "Youth Attack!" album, with audio sourced from the original ADAT master tape and given a much fuller and more pulverizing production by Will Killingsworth, featuring several overdubs reincorporated into the mix that were previously left off of the original version.
· 200 page, LP-sized, full color hardcover coffee table book printed on 150gsm matte art paper with anti-scratch matte lamination case wrapped cover, jam packed with hundreds of rare, mostly unseen photos and ephemera, and extensive commentary chronologically detailing every show the band played in their final year. The book also includes comprehensive liner notes spanning over 12,000 words, covering the band's history and relevance, written by famed Chicago author, musician, and DIY archivist, Dave Hofer.
