After striking up an occasional penpalship several years ago, Michael Krause of DEATH FACTORY (likely inadvertently) planted the seed of doing a split release with the legendary Shizuoka, Japan noise crusher Kimihide Kusafuke, better known as K2. Of course, the opportunity could not be passed up and we jumped right on it! At first, Kimkihide said it would be a few months for him to send some material, but only a few days later he laid the sickest half-hour of sonic obliteration on us, a mash-up culled from recordings of real-time live performances from 2018 and 2023. The DEATH FACTORY material that precedes it is a brand new piece, recorded in the midst of summer 2024 sessions for what has just recently become the new album ‘Panchromatic Resonance’ on Dubuque, IA label Breaching Static, and a 2015 recording lifted from a very limited edition six-way split on Placenta Recordings, mastered by Mark Shippy of U.S. MAPLE. Michael Krause began the DEATH FACTORY project in 1988, with his first homemade cassette ‘Nerve Gas’ recorded with his boom box; he has since had many releases on labels such as Crucial Blast, RRRecords, No Part Of It, No Sides, Personal Archives, Australian label Smell The Stench, the above-mentioned Breaching Static and the late William Berger’s label Prison Tatt. Kimihide Kusafuka put out his earliest K2 recordings in 1983 and now has over 200 releases under his belt, on labels like Helicopter, Self Abuse, American Tapes, BloodLust!, Deathbed Tapes, Bizarre Audio Arts, Gods Of Tundra, Personal Archives, Tribe Tapes, Placenta Recordings and sooooooooooo many more, past and present, including the many releases on his own imprint Kinky Musik Institute.
