New - Death Pyre - Between Shadow and Substance - Cassette

A superunit comprised of the Chicago, IL/St. Louis, MO avant goth duo AMPYRE and the Chicago, IL post-industrial/noise outfit DEATH FACTORY, DEATH PYRE has been a pretty occasional project since 2017. But last year, the band got together at the Experimental Sound Studio here in Chicago and recorded for several hours, and 2025 will see not one but three albums released on three different labels. And we are quite pleased to be the first one out of the gate. Depressive drones and crushing beats lie underneath sheets of icy synth stabs and guitar mange, with AMPYRE vocalist Mimi Tolva (DEODARA, formerly of ONO) spreading darkness through the atmosphere above with her trademark operatic vox style. The music calls back to the spirit of the late 80s/90s era of gothic/ambient/experimental genre-melders while bringing 21st century experience and sensibilities to interpret their aesthetics for the modern milieu.
