After the release of their 2001 full-length “Get In Before The Rain” on 404 Records, William Zientara (Tintoretto, Hero Of 100 Fights) became a welcomed addition to the Murder In The Red Barn camp. The addition of Zientara marked a shift from the band’s previously mysterious and brooding sound to crafting shorter, more aggressive, discordant, and disjointed songs.
After extensive touring in 2001, Murder in the Red Barn headed to Chicago to record three new songs and a rearrangement of “Cutthroats” with engineer Mike Lust. Ed Walters Records originally released these four tunes and one song from a live radio performance on CD. MRB’s self-titled EP is essential canon from the elusive and highly influential Milwaukee math-rock/post-rock scene that revolved around 404 Records in the late 90s/early 00s. Here is the re-issued classic on a 10-inch “red/black swirl” 140-gram vinyl with a centerfold insert and jacket, staying true to the original layout.
