Following the release of Track Star’s Sometimes, What's the Difference? (Silver Girl, 1995), the San Francisco trio matured through non-stop touring (including supporting Stereolab throughout the US) and releasing two full lengths Communication Breaks (Die Young Stay Pretty/Sub Pop, 1997) and Lion Destroyed the Whole World (Better Looking, 2002). Following the departure of their second drummer, singer/guitarists Wyatt Cusick (Aislers Set) and Matthew Troy (Calling All Monsters) were joined by Brian Girgus (Lowercase) and Track Star continued to build on their reputation of soft pop (not unlike Beat Happening) that would explode as the twin 5-string guitars stomped on RAT pedals and began screaming of their breakup traumas and hurling themselves into one another as well as audience members. With REDUX we have re-mastered the original recordings originally released on West Coast labels Kickdown, St. Francis, Chocolate River (deconstruction), Suicide Squeeze/Sub Pop, Omnibus and Amazing Grease for a career-spanning retrospective including several previously unreleased gems.
