We are very very VERY pleased to be presenting a record that has been 25 years in the making, Very Secretary's lone LP titled "Standing In The Shade"

Born from the ashes of two seminal 90s midwest emo bands, Braid and The One Up Downstairs, Very Secretary was a band from Champaign-Urbana, IL, formed in March 1997 by Dave Johnson, Allen Johnson, Tim Adamson and Roy Ewing.

After releasing their debut EP "Best Possible Souvenir" on Mud Records, Tim Adamson left the band and was replaced by violin player Rachael Dietkus. This making the core lineup for their swan song CDLP released in 1999.

Pulling influences from their surrounding social circle (this record feels like Champaign IL at that time) as well as contemporaries like Ida or The American Analog Set, Very Secretary's sound wasn't as aggressive or youthful as their peers or previous works. Very Secretary was able to expand on the ideas which founded The One Up Downstairs and create inviting yet introspective landscapes for listeners to be immersed in.

It was adult. It was taking indie-emo music to a place it hadn't been to quite yet.

To celebrate this records 25th anniversary we have pressed this beautiful piece of work, nearly lost to the sands of time, on LP for the very first time. The artwork has been masterfully reshot and recreated to match that of the original CD but with a more modern look and feel, complete with gatefold packaging and beautifully pressed colored vinyl c/o Smashed Plastic.

A must own for any fan of 90s midwest emo music. A record that has been often overlooked and one that was a massive influence to us here in the SCLTD camp.
